Treatment of gingival necrosis with laser

The nature of gingival necrosis:
Cleaning the inflamed gum mechanically – calculus removal, polishing – is usually enough to treat the inflammation.
In a more severe case, deep and inflamed gum pockets may surround the teeth – then, mechanic cleaning is not enough. The bone around the teeth decays because of the inflammation. Therefore teeth like these – if not treated in time – loosen up an get extracted sooner or later.
Characteristic symptoms of gingival necrosis:
- gum bleeding when brushing one's teeth
- unpleasant mouth odour
- inflamed gum, coloured purple or red
- loose tooth
- pain
- the decay of the bone structure can be detected on the X-ray
Procedure of treatment:
1. The treatment always begins with a thorough dental hygienic cleansing
- thorough mechanic tooth brushing
- ultrasound calculus removal, polish
2. Laser treatment:
- The laser beam gets to the bottom of the pockets with the help of a thin thread
- The laser eliminates bacteria hidden in the deep
- Makes the damaged tissue evaporate
- Initiates the multiplication of bone cells due to its biostimulating effect
- The inflammation ceases in the pocket thus cleaned.
The laser treatment is conducted in anaesthesis, therefore it is completely painless. The laser beam needs 30-40 seconds to sweep around one tooth for 2 or 3 times.
On the limits of the laser treatment:
Unfortunately, this procedure also has limits, for example, when gingival necrosis developed because of immunological background reasons.
- bone decay is not the result of the deposits and bacteria surrounding the periodontium,
- what is more, no calculus r inflammation is visible in many cases, yet the bone decays around the teeth.
- Gingival necrosis can also develop without inflammation, solely because of the insufficiency of the immune system.
Laser treatment and regular cleaning help this situation too, but their efficacy is less.
In other cases, gingival necrosis is in a state when teeth are held by nothing but inflamed tissue, healthy tissue – that could be stimulated – is not detectable. In this case, there is o way to save one's natural teeth.
