Steps of tooth implantation – how to plan your schedule?
Implantation requires serious planning and can only be conducted in several phases, except for a few cases. The healing periods between the different phases are rather long.
PLANNING IN YOUR OWN HOME

- Requesting treatment plan and quotation without dental examination
- You can request a preliminary treatment plan on the basis of panorama X-ray
- You can send us your traditional panorama X-ray via mail, to our address
- or you can send us your digital panorama scan via email
- We compile a detailed treatment plan and quotation, and also specify the number of trips to Hungary and the duration of each trip – in English, German and Italian

- Please contact us at least a month before your planned travel to Hungary, to make sure we can find a suitable appointment

- Preparing a 3D X-ray scan
- For the sake of safe implantation, in order for the planning and the surgery to be precise, the doctor requires a 3 dimensional CATscan in most cases. This can be done in a lab 20 minutes away from our clinic.
- You will receive a referral for the scan, and getting there is made easier by the map on the other page of the referral. The CATscan is ready in 1 minute, the patient gets the result on a CD.
- The CATscan costs approximately 25 000 HUF, which is to be paid on location, in the X-ray laboratory.

- Preparation for the implantation, implantation
- several options are possible depending on the dental status
- in a simpler case, implantation is possible immediately, but it may happen that only the preliminary dental treatments can be done on the first occasion (see the chart below).

- Installation of healing screw
- if the necessary implantation has been in the bone for at least 4 months, you have to come to the clinic for a short day to have the screw placed in
- this is needed for the sake of nice and natural gum contour, mostly in aesthetically important areas (like upper front teeth)
- the healing screw should be in the mouth for at least 3 weeks

- Installation of implant superstructure and final crown
- this phase does not require surgery, its steps are like preparing a traditional bridge or crown
- this requires delicate, precise technique, with a lot of imprints and tests, so the preparation takes minimally 5-8 days
The chart below helps you to clarify how to plan, and when your tooth implant might be ready. It is easy to see there are several variations possible, since there are no two identical patients or situations. Therefore the exact treatment plan can only be prepared by the doctor after a personal dental examination.

How long is the surgery itself?
In a simpler case, for example, when only one implant screw is to be installed, the surgery takes 30-40 minutes altogether with preparatory treatments, without bone replacement.
The installation of several implants or a surgery involving bone replacement or sinus-lift may take several hours. Usually, we do not conduct surgeries longer than 2-3 hours. If more surgery is needed, that can take place on another occasion.
In the event of longer surgery, intravenous anesthetis is an option that is conducted in the presence of anesthesiologist (this is recommended mostly in cases exceeding 6 implants).
